Ellie is a passionate woman, who loves working with others and cares deeply about social justice and community service. Ellie believes in finding positives in every instance. Growing up in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan, she learned at a young age the value of helping others through first hand experiences of social action. This desire has been a constant in every stage of her life, leading her to a university that promoted these values and establishing herself within the studies of Human Services and Poverty and Social Justice. Elon University was a gift in pushing her to live this mission even more. Being accepted as a Periclean Scholar at Elon, Ellie has had the opportunity to partner with the Pine Ridge Reservation, working to seek justice for those impacted by child abuse. After a semester studying abroad in Tanzania, Ellie found herself struggling with the intense poverty and the absence of resources. This reality guided her to pursue a path in international non-profit work, specifically with a focus in Public Health.
Blessed with a supportive family, she never took for granted the good fortune she was handed, and utilized this to drive her continued passion for service work. Throughout her entire life Judaism and social justice have been a combining force that have impacted most of her involvement thus far. Ellie grew up attending, and later was a staff member at Goldman Union Camp Institute, which fostered her love for Jewish community and connection.
Most recently Ellie moved to New Orleans to serve as an Avodah Fellow and work at Southeast Louisiana Legal Services as a Case Coordinator and Intake worker. After her yearin the fellowship, she is excited to continue her career in the Jewish non-profit world as the Student Engagement Manager and Development Associate for Tulane Hillel.
Whether it be hiking in East Africa, finding the best gluten free spots in New Orleans, or just hanging out with people that bring her joy; you can almost always find Ellie with a smile on her face, and excited about whatever adventure is next!
